Kirli’s poetry Collection, Kindred was Highly Commended in Black&Write 2018. It was short-listed for ABIA 2020 Small Publishing Adult Book of The Year and FAB Booktopia Book of the Year Awards. Kirli was the inaugural winner of the WA 2019 Premiers Literary Awards – Daisy Utemmorah Award, and is currently working on her visual poetry collection, Returning. She is the winner of the University of Canberra ATSI Poetry Prize 2019 and was Runner-up in the Nakata Brophy Prize 2018. Kirli was guest writer for the Australian Embassy, touring Jakarta and Bali in 2019 and was invited to participate in Australia Writes with the Embassy in China. Kirli’s poetry has been published in anthologies including Guwayu, For All Times (Red Room Poetry + Magabala Books) and Fire Front: First Nations Poetry and Power Today (UQP) and In Your Hands (Red Room Poetry) as well as in Cordite, Overland, Planthunter, The Mind of Plants, Going Down Swinging and Verity La. Kirli’s poetry has been commissioned for public art in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney as well as by corporates including AMEX.
Kirli is an experienced teaching poet and has led a range of Red Room Poetry Poetic Learning and Stella Prize workshops, performances and presentations in a number of public schools and educational communities with a range of partners across Australia.
